NEW YORK (AP) -- Matt Harpring scored 13 points as the Utah Jazz held the New York Knicks to just 24 percent shooting in the first half of a 94-89 exhibition victory Tuesday night.
Karl Malone and DeShawn Stevenson each had 12 points, and former Knick Mark Jackson had eight assists in 23 minutes for Utah (3-4), which won its second straight after losing four in a row.
Allan Houston had 17 points, including on 11-of-12 shooting from the free throw line, to lead the Knicks (4-3), who turned in a sloppy effort one day after estranged teammate Latrell Sprewell criticized the organization and was suspended for not following the team's rehabilitation regimen for his broken right pinkie finger.
The Knicks beat the Jazz and two other Western Conference teams during last week's road trip.
Clarence Weatherspoon added 11 rebounds and Howard Eisley had 13 points and nine assists for the Knicks, who shot 39 percent and committed 22 turnovers.
The Knicks' mistakes carried over into the third quarter, and they fell behind 55-35 before showing some hustle. Shandon Anderson scored five points during a 20-8 New York run and broke up a 2-on-1 break with a steal.
A dunk by Andrei Kirilenko, followed by Stevenson's layup in traffic with 2.4 seconds left, put Utah back ahead by 13 entering the fourth quarter.
With all reserves on the floor, the Knicks got to 92-89 on Eisley's 3- pointer with 15 seconds left, but on the next possession he missed a 3- point heave that would have tied it.
Knicks rookie Frank Williams, who missed the first six games with a broken left wrist, entered in the fourth quarter and scored four points.
Each team has one exhibition left: The Jazz are home against Toronto on Thursday night, while the Knicks are at New Jersey on Friday.
