New York - San Antonio: 85-82

SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- Shandon Anderson scored 17 of his 18 points in the third quarter to lead the New York Knicks past the San Antonio Spurs for an 85-82 exhibition victory Friday night.

Allan Houston added 13 and Clarence Weatherspoon 12 for the Knicks, who built a 10-point lead in the final period that the Spurs' reserves cut to two with less than a minute remaining.

The Spurs had a chance to tie on the last play, but Devon Brown's 3- pointer just before the buzzer went off the back of the rim.

Tim Duncan led San Antonio with 15 points, but he shot just 5-of-16 from the floor. Bruce Bowen and Malik Rose both scored 11 points, and David Robinson had 10. Duncan had 10 rebounds, all on the defensive end.

The game was the first in the new SBC Center, built a few miles from the Alamodome, where the Spurs played for nearly a decade.

San Antonio led by a basket at the half but quickly fell behind in the third when Anderson started shooting well. Seconds into the period, he hit a 16-foot shot to tie the score at 43. His free throws with 18 seconds left in the quarter put New York up 72-63. He made six of his seven field goal attempts, one of them a 3-pointer, and went 4-for-6 from the line.
